COCOON

Discarded textiles, plastic bags, offcuts of wire, broken jewellery, acrylic medium, liquid latex, industrial pulley hook, found twine, flaked dirt, 148cm x 54cm, installation dimensions variable.

A cocoon is a space that offers protection, safety and comfort. It’s about withdrawing from harshness, putting up a physical barrier, and surviving. Yet, it allows for a process of transformation to take place. The old self is broken down and repurposed, before it emerges as a different being. These metaphors are particularly reflective of the queer experience. To survive, we must pick up the pieces and craft our own communities so that we can emerge stronger.

Stronger than yesterday.

Now it's nothing but my way…
